Scoop! One Life to Live Cowboy Quits and Hits the TrailThis just in... Beloved soap-opera veteran Phil Carey — whom One Life to Live fans know as billionaire cowboy Asa Buchanan — is leaving Llanview when his contract expires in April.
"Phil Carey and Asa Buchanan have always been an important part of One Life to Live," the show's rep tells TVGuide.com. "At this time, Mr. Carey has decided not to accept the recent offer to appear on a recurring basis."
That's putting it mildly. I'm hearing that Carey objected to being taken off contract in words that are a little too spicy to print, kids!
This is a damn shame because Carey — who has played Asa on and off since 1979 — recently returned to OLTL after a rough battle with lung cancer. We were so thrilled to have him back, and now this bummer. Sigh.

That's a damn shame. :( I just loved him, especially when he was around or talking about the 'She-Devils'. He was such a hoot. If he leaves, I'm assuming that they will just have Asa have another heart-attack. I don't think they would re-cast this role, not that they could, Phil Carey has become a sort of institution of sorts on the show, I don't think there is anyone who could fill his big ole' shoes... err cowboy boots!
I just can't beleive that he's leaving! This is so sad. But I guess that will leave Clint the Patriarch of the Buchanan clan. And damn, April is already knocking on the door, it's too soon! We need at least 6 more months of him and Clint / Jerry and Phil. They absolutly did NOT have enough screen time talking about anything. Especially Dorian... (hint, hint!)

I'm with you Meags.
I'm just dying to see Clint discussing his decision about Dorian with Asa. That would be such fun!
I hope they send him and Renee to the ranch or something and maybe he can come back. Just hate the thought of never seeing him again.

I hope they don't kill him off. Unless they really need it for the storyline, but I doubt they do. He could be off at the ranch, upstairs resting, whatever.
I really don't like the way Asa talks about, and to, Dorian and would love to see him mellow once he see how much Clint cares about her.

I'm going to see how this shakes out. Contract negotiations are an interesting thing. Didn't something like this happen previously with Phil? Anyway, whatever the case, I am most interested in PC having a long and fullfilling life. In other words, after a scare with cancer I want him to take care of himself on or off the show. As for Asa, I want the door open for his return. But I can also see them going with whatever will present them with the most story mileage.
