Chapter 62

Dorian (is sitting on the bed): I didn't want to be with a man, who didn't love me, a man who couldn't love me because he was in love with someone else.

Clint (is standing): Love? (chuckles) What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Dorian (raises brow): You know very well what it means.

Clint: We made a mess of things. Before all that stuff things were rolling along pretty smoothly. We had fun together Dorian! Fun! You were out to have a good time just like I was!

Dorian: In the beginning--yes.

Clint: In the beginning.

Dorian(shrugs): We were good together. We had fun.

Clint: That we did. That was all. Well, in the beginning you know? Before things got complicated.

Dorian: Yes, well you know before Viki took you away from me.

Clint: Bullshit!

Dorian: I didn't like it then and well, I guess she's a loser now. (smirks)

Clint: We split up because of your lying ways!

Dorian (stands): You couldn't get enough of me. (Looks him the eyes.) You couldn't handle it. Or, the truth about what was between us.

Clint: Maybe. I don't think either of us complained about me taking to the reins in the open fields. You were too much then. You're too much now. (Dorian stares for a moment, then caresses his shoulder before she walks away. His eyes follow her.)Some broncos belong in the wild. (There is silence.) My decision to be with Viki had nothing to do with us.

Dorian (chuckles): She worked her charm on you.

Clint: Oh really, I though you were the one with the bewitching ways. (grins).

Dorian: You fell in love with her. (Clint paces before he stops to look at her again.) You married her--twice.

Clint: You can be hateful, pure evil, spiteful! Just damn hateful to anyone who crosses ya! And that includes me.

Dorian: Clint!

Clint: You punished me!

Dorian: This is all my fault?!

Clint: You punished me for having feelings for Viki. You, you denied me knowing that I have a son. Family--that is who I am as a man!

Dorian: And what was I to you, nothing?

Clint: No. Never. Not even when I turned to hating ya. Being with Viki meant a life I always dreamt of. (Clint walks over to Dorian; lifts her downward chin and looks into her eyes.) A part of me, a part of me always wanted you. (Dorian accuses, "Liar!") I married Viki. We shared a life, children together. But that doesn't mean that I didn't feel what was happening between you and me. To tell you the truth it scared me.

Dorian: So I was right. You were afraid.

Clint: Afraid. Still, enough within me to cut you loose. You bucked against being tamed. It seemed unnatural to hold you so steady. I gave you the freedom to roam the wild.

Dorian: You broke my heart. It was easier to be angry than to feel what I did for you.

Clint: Anger, confusion, jealousy. We were close but you were not who I was supposed to be with.

Dorian: What? Why?

Clint (looks away): I didn't see a future with the two of us being together.

Dorian: All this horseman talk about me being tamed. The truth is I wasn't good enough, not like Viki.

Clint: No, no, no. Not Viki. This isn't about Viki. What I'm trying to say to ya is ya got to me Dorian.

Dorian: You left.

Clint: I know.

Dorian: I wanted you back.

Clint: Is that why you went after Viki, our family?

Dorian: She went after me. She took what was mine!

Clint: You hate her.

Dorian: I hate her for a lot of reasons.

Clint: Including the two of us.

Dorian: It hurt me that you weren't there for me when I was in prison for Mitch's murder. (Clint has a sorrowful expression.) You didn't seem to care that I was sentenced to death by lethal injection for the supposed murder of Victor Lord. Even though Viki had dumped you for Sloan, you were there for her. I was alone. Viki even turned my daughter against me. But she had everyone, everything that I loved. I hated both of you then. You bastard! (She walks away from him.)

Clint: And Joey?

Dorian: Joe was my revenge. I wanted to infuriate Viki. I wanted to hurt her not you. I wanted to drive you mad.

Clint (turns to look at her): It worked.

Dorian: I fell in love with him. (There is silence.) Clint, I would have told you about our son if you weren't with Viki on your honeymoon.

Clint: And when we got back?

Dorian: I discovered that Viki was pregnant with Jessica. Why would I tell you then that your son had died?

Clint: I had a right to know.

Dorian: I had made up my mind that I wouldn't tell you before the baby died. I thought to myself that Viki would have forgiven your indiscretion.

Clint: All or nothing at all. You always said that.

Dorian: You were having marital difficulties because of Niki Smith and her love affair with Harry O'Neil. What happened between us was understandable given the circumstances. And I would have been taken care of, left to rot for a crime I didn't commit. My son.

Clint: Our son.

Dorian: My son was someone I didn't want Viki to have. My son, you. You never came to see me.

Clint: I wanted to forget about us.

Dorian: I hated you.

Clint: So you were going to give birth and then what?

Dorian: I don't know. I wasn't thinking clearly. I made a choice not to tell you. You made a choice years ago to forget that I existed while you built your life with Viki.

Clint: Fine, Dorian. We have hurt each other. What's done is done.

Dorian: In a manner of speaking.

Clint: So what do we do with all that now? (There is long silence) Dorian I don't know what to do about what happened or how to bring back all the years we spent hurting each other.

Dorian: I am sorry that I hurt you. I am very sorry.

Clint (walks over to her, embraces her): And, I'm sorry too. I'm sorry that I turned away from you when you needed me the most. It was selfish and uncaring. I'm not going to let that happen again.

Dorian: I love you, Clint.

Clint says, "I love you, too," before they kiss gently and then with greater passion. They pause. Clint takes Dorian's hand and he leads her to the bed. He gently discards her robe before she falls into his arms.

Jeez, you made Clint a little thick there. And I think a little insensitive. But on the whole, I liked the chapter. Though I'm still trying to figure out what it accomplished, I guess a general understanding of their previous relationship? And are you gonna tell me about Nash?! It's killing me not knowing!!!

BTW, I can't believe I'm the first to comment, does NO one go on this board anymore? I know I've been quite busy, otherwise I would have posted sooner.

Maybe so. But I think all humans are fallable. And people are different at various points in their lives. It called attention to what happened in the past that situates their relationship in the present. There has always been something there between them that they are finally acting on now. I think they want to get it right.

I was inspired by missing Dorian and Clint. So I wrote them together. I also wanted to put past and present in perspective.

Within the next few chapters you will have an answer.

We have more readers than people commenting, especially when Dorian and Clint aren't in scenes. That's what I've noted. And then there is life outside the boards that keeps us all occupied. I come here as a hobby. I write as a hobby. I appreciate your stopping in and commenting.
