That's Life Anyone who knows me in real life would recognize "that's life" as an expression I use quite often. I have no grandiose expectations and I'm not a quitter. How else can you explain, for instance, that I haven't given up on Dorian and Clint despite all that has happened since 2006? The September 11th episode is a great example of why I keep the faith and ask for more of this couple. In that episode, the first that I've seen to list Ron Carlivati as lone headwriter, Dorian and Clint were featured in a fun and interesting way that made it so easy to watch and forget that I haven't seen them much in the last month. Yeah, I am an addictive personality type. For one thing, I watch soaps and I've watched OLTL through a host of bad storylines and uncreative, and simply awful regimes.
On a recent hotline.jpg Robin Strasser said that she wanted to stick around for awhile--her contract expires somewhere around February, 2008. She sounded somewhat hopeful with Mr. Carlivati as lead writer. She continues to have faith in him and I know she loves the character of Dorian Lord. So I am inspired by that even when I see Dorian mostly in the background and these days in limited scenes. The same holds true for the talented Jerry verDorn. On Tuesday, I saw what could be the beginnings of a storyline involving young teen Langston Wilde --one that also might involve Dorian and possibly Clint.

Clint tells Dorian he has a list of things he loves about her
while Langston and Starr make a list about wishes for the future.

Run time=12:40As has been rumored and what seems to be shaping into existence, Langston's home life may not be as she has previously conveyed with two parents. It has been noted from an audition script that Langston may soon find herself in trouble with social services and having to explain the whereabouts of her parents. Dorian, who is already interested in the teen, may become more involved in her life.
On another point, Clint has a way of questioning Dorian on her actions in a manner that is non-confrontational and respectful of Dorian's spirit. In other words, he doesn't shoot her down even when he thinks that she is wrong. He allows her to make up her mind about things. I saw that again as he drew Dorian's attention to her wanting to get involved in Langston's life because her Cramer girls seem pretty self-sufficient for the moment. He acknowledged, though, that the young girl would be lucky to have Dorian in her life; the c3.gif even added that he hearts1.gif doragain.gif 's mother lioness qualities. Later, Dorian poked fun at Clint for his concern about a stranger having a picture of Jessica and feeling the need to mention it to his daughter. Wasn't he doing just what he said she was doing in "meddling?" They both laughed but she told him he should talk to his daughter if he was worried about her.
The above is called having a mature conversation. That's what I want to continue seeing. Dorian and Clint are very different, but there is not reason for it to be an explosive moment each time they have disagreements. And, it doesn't have to take way from the individuality of the characters for them to remain together. That is no easy feat to accomplish, so I have to give Carlivati and his team credit for allowing these characters to be true to form with their integrity intact through disagreement.
A year ago Dorian and Clint split after he learned about stalkerilla1.gif Ms. Strasser was not pleased by this surprise twist in the storyline and neither were many of her fans. But we have a new headwriter who actually seems to be a fan of the show. I can tell. He seems to be writing the characters as if he cares about them and their portrayers. I agree with Langston and Starr's conversation on Tuesday's show as they wrote out their dreams for the future.
"Langston: There we go. You know, it's good to make wishes. It would be really sad to think that it was all just random -- life, I mean.
Starr: So now, we just wait to see if our dreams come true.
Langston: yep And, that's LIFE.
