Getting Over You Willie Nelson and Bonnie Raitt

Lyrics
Why do I still write why do I still call
Why do I still think there's hope for us at all
These are the things I hate but they're the things I do to get over you
Sunsets make me cry old pictures make me grin
But I don't really care to see your face again
These are the things I say but they're so hard to do like gettin' over you
You gotta believe that there's a reason that we surrender up our hearts
But there's a vantage point and it takes some time to find
Where you can see how all the pieces fit as you watch 'em fall apart
Now I don't think it's right and you don't know what's wrong
My heart keeps asking me just where do we belong
It's not as though my life ain't hard enough to do try gettin' over you
[ guitar ]
You gotta believe that there's a reason...
Now other people say stop living in the past
But when there's nothin' left it's your memory that lasts
It's later than you think but still this isn't through this gettin' over you
Now it's later than you think and still this isn't through this gettin' over you

I see from an interview Headwriter Ron Carlivati recently did for Soap Opera Digest Online that what we are seeing is his material. [See RC talks about strike] As a fan of Dorian and Clint, I am not pleased that there has been little follow through on a story that has been watched for two years by fans who have followed the affair. It's not so much that they are no longer a couple but that the break up was done in such a harsh manner and in a way that didn't make sense given the fact that Clint, a character who has rarely said ILY, would say it one week and kiss Nora the next. It still doesn't make sense to me. Previous to that, I was confused that Dorian would be surprised at his saying he loves her. That didn't make sense, either. And there doesn't seem to be any effort to offer explanation as I believe it is the responsibility of a caring writer to do so for his viewers. Instead fans are frustrated because neither character is being allowed to really speak of the break up beyond saying it occurred. It appears to be glossed over as something that is said to be significant but a story isn't being told. I specifically recall Mr. Carlivati saying that he would not abruptly end story because he has hated that when new writers did that to an audience. Still in upcoming weeks, spoilers say that Clint and Nora will be officially dating. I gotta say, "Wow that's fast!" Mr. Carlivati has Clint say ILY and engage in a nonsensical fight with Dorian that is within days leading to a breakup at Thanksgiving, and now it is followed by a new romance by New Year's? The Marcie storyline with Tommy continues but we have the core characters of Clint Buchanan and Dorian Lord end a relationship and it's not being played for the necessary beats. I don't get it.

I was emailing a fellow C/D fan and pointed out that I could not see Clint and Nora as believable (unless it's made to be a rebound) because it's being rushed with Clint jumping into a relationship mere weeks after stating he was in love with another woman. While Dorian seems to be allowed to play that she has feelings for Clint, Clint seems to be shuttled off to Noraville without regard to his words to Dorian. How come we don't get insight into Clint's feelings? Though Dorian betrayed him with David, it makes Clint seem awfully fickle in my eyes to be romantically interested in another woman so soon.

For whatever reasons, David is allowed to point out to Dorian that she is still not over Clint, but Clint is not permitted the same regard for his character, which would have allowed him to maintain more integrity in my opinion. Also, it was pointed out to me by my cyber buddy and I agree, that it doesn't make sense for Dorian to act as though she is so in love with Clint and to tell everyone how much she cares when she nearly attacked Clint for saying that he loved her. In fact their story had been building to this admission of love with Dorian even telling David on his previous visit that she might be Mrs. Buchanan when he returned to Llanview. With comment like that, why is Dorian shocked that Clint would say that he loves her?

Thus far, I am very disappointed with the disjointed and truncated manner this story has been written. As my cyber friend pointed out, on Friday we were told by Natalie that Clint was dealing with some "Dorian drama." Why are Clint fans not allowed to see the story play out? Why must we be told of story instead of being shown it? Part of my being stuck on this C/D pairing at present are Clint's words to Dorian that he loves her and my belief--as she has shown it--that Dorian feels the same. Sometimes, I wish Mr. Carlvati had never written for Clint to utter those words. What was the point? And frankly, a responsible writer shouldn't leave me to wonder unless this particular story is not at a finish.

How great were those scenes with Dorian and the rest of the Cramer Women?! If there is one thing Mr. Carlivati seriously "gets," it's the Cramer Women dynamic. Longtime viewers are well aware that disaster is soon to strike whenever the Cramer Women get together for a civilized event dressed to the nines. A fight will likely breakout between at least two of the Cramers with Dorian trying to rise above it all to maintain the peace-- sometimes she is simply too high strung to do so and another calmer Cramer steps into the role. There is usually a great deal of truth and humor involved in the scenes and well, craziness. I think the scenes that aired on Friday (12.21.07) hit all the right notes. Seeing a newly glamorous and strangely refined Addie show up at the end of the show asking for Blair to bring her a glass of champagne was like a crescendo! More is likely to come on Monday and thank goodness!

Writers' Strike
Last week Robin and Jerry joined the picket lines with the writers and other Daytime stars. From what I've gathered, former OLTL Executive Producer Gary Tomlin has joined the show as a writer. OLTL won "Best Daytime Drama" Emmy honors when he was EP and there is no doubt that he loves the show. Nonetheless I am concerned about the show suffering loss of momentum just when it appears, for the most part, to be on the rebound. I am not happy with how Dorian and Clint's relationship is presently written to it's end but that doesn't mean that I am not mindful of the show in it's entirety and that it has benefited positively by having Mr. Carlivati as head writer. My thoughts will be with those affected by these events during the holiday season. It is my wish that matters soon are settled no only for viewers but also for these individuals and their families.
